Visiting the Blue Lagoon is a must when visiting Iceland. It’s one of those things that you have to check off the bucket list, and it makes for killer instagram photos! We had perfect weather the day we went, about 50 degrees Fahrenheit outside. The lagoon is anywhere from 94 to 104 depending on what part you’re in. As you move around you can tell that the water gets hotter and colder in different spots. We spent just over an hour in the picturesque lagoon, drinking wine from the swim up bar and trying out the natural face masks. There’s definitely a few tips I have for anyone that is planning on visiting the lagoon!
- Buy tickets before hand: Only a certain amount of people are let in at a time so if you buy your ticket beforehand you know you’ll have no problem getting in at your selected time. If you show up randomly you may not be able to get in.
- Keep your hair up!: I know that having your hair down makes for a killer photo, but believe me it wasn’t worth it. We even followed all of the advice we saw online. We put conditioner in our hair before going in and washed and conditioned with very nice shampoo and conditioner after. For us it didn’t make a difference. Our hair was brittle and crunchy for the next three days. It took about three separate washes for it to start to feel normal again.
- Keep your expectations realistic: We were super excited to visit the Blue Lagoon, as you should be! However you have to be realistic about it. It’s a main attraction for everyone visiting so expect it to be somewhat crowded when you go. It’s also surrounded by lava rock so driving to it is not very scenic like you may imagine. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still super cool, just make sure to be realistic about the crowds.
- Last but not least: Make sure to enjoy the lagoon and have tons of fun! Grab a drink from the swim up bar and stay hydrated by hitting the water fountain under one of the bridges. You can also rent water proof phone bags if you want to bring it with you in the Lagoon. You have a bracelet that you can scan every time you buy something. You pay at the end so the whole process is super simple. Locker rooms and showers are provided and they were super safe and clean.
Those are all the tips I have for the Lagoon! Iceland overall was so amazing I highly recommend visiting!
P.S. I’d also like to add that the sky really is that blue and beautiful there and the water is so milky white/blue that your hand disappears under it! So pretty!
